NATIONAL COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION ALLIANCE (CRA)

A NATIONAL PUBLIC EDUCATION INITIATIVE ON

EQUITABLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH

The Community Revitalization Alliance is a national public education initiative on equitable community development, environment and health.  At the foundation of the project, Sustainable Community Development Group, Inc. is facilitating the convergence of a growing coalition of stakeholders whose local, place-based work epitomizes sustainable land use, environment and health problem-solving and innovative neighborhood revitalization strategies.

Community Revitalization Alliance members are community development corporations (CDCs), environmental justice groups,

civic associations, faith based organizations, developers and practitioners in these fields from around the nation.

This educational initiative provides insight and ideas to inform the public and public policy decision makers on priority issues in underserved rural, suburban and urban communities in the U.S. including redevelopment models for vacant properties, brownfields and other distressed areas.  Through a think-tank approach and public education, the Alliance is carrying forward successful community driven redevelopment strategies, sustainable land re-use and best practices developed in the field.

Community Revitalization Alliance featured at National Community Reinvestment Coalition's Annual Conference, April 2008 in Washington DC.

Deeohn Ferris delivered plenary remarks on the emerging green economy and leveraging benefits to address sustainable redevelopment including social, economic and environmental disparities in underserved communities.  Over 500 people joined NCRC at the annual conference: Creating the Vision for a Fair Economy: Investing in People and Communities”. Community leaders, lawmakers, regulators, civil rights leaders, bankers, the media, housing groups, faith-based organizations, business development organizations and environmental justice advocates, green builders, trainers, workforce developers and others - came together over four event filled days on Capitol Hill.

The Advisory Committee for this education initiative, which is expanding as the coalition grows, is drawn from groups around the nation in the community sector who work on growth and development, environment and health from the vantage point of sustainable communities and environmental justice.
